Derrick Dufresne, MBPA

Derrick Dufresne, MBPA

Bio & Education

Bio: A co-founding member of CRA Learning, Derrick is a management consultant that has worked on projects involving transitioning individuals with disabilities out of state institutions and facilities to residential environments within the community. Derrick’s dedication to life in the community for individuals with disabilities has evolved from serving as a unit manager in an institution to running a non-profit that provides residential services in the community to managing projects that close institutions and transition individuals into the community. He has delivered conference presentations, training, strategic board planning retreats, workshops and management consultation to over 80,000 people in 49 states. He has worked extensively in the closing of residential facilities, transforming systems that support individuals with disabilities to implement best practice, and establishing community wraparound services for individuals who are in crisis. Education: Derrick received a BIS in Social Work from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA and a MBPA (in Business and Public Administration) from Southeastern University in Washington, D.C. He also earned a certificate in Management Training from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dan Howell

Dan Howell, MA

Bio & Education

Bio: A co-founding member of CRA Learning, Dan has a long history in medical administration and as acting as a facility director in the field of IDD. He has worked on projects involving closure of state institutions and facilities and transitioning residents out of state facilities to residential environments within the community. Education: Dan earned a Master of Arts (MA) in organizational leadership and was graduated from University of Mary in 2008. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration & management from Concordia College.
Rafael E. Salazar II, MHS, OTR/L

Bio & Education

Bio: A co-founding member of CRA Learning, Rafael (Rafi) is an Occupational Therapist that has worked on projects involving transitioning individuals with disabilities out of state institutions and facilities to residential environments within the community. Prior to this work, he was the lead clinician in an outpatient specialty rehab clinic at a VA Medical Center. He also has experience as a faculty member at Augusta University’s Occupational Therapy Program, as a Licensed Board Member on the GA State OT Board, and has served on several committees for the national OT Board (NBCOT). He also serves on the Board of Directors for NBCOT. Rafi is also the Principal Owner of Rehab U Practice Solutions, a marketing and strategy firm serving healthcare organizations. Education: Rafael earned a Masters in Health Sciences and was graduated from Augusta University (formerly MCG) Department of Occupational Therapy in 2012.

Bio: A co-founding member of CRA Learning, Bryon is an Registered Nurse that has worked on projects involving transitioning individuals with disabilities out of state institutions and facilities to residential environments within the community. Bryon’s professional experience includes executive, middle and project management roles in the acute, long-term, ambulatory, and managed health care settings, and in the intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) field. He has extensive background in human resources, organizational development, and clinical resource allocation and management. His clinical nursing expertise and experience is principally in senior care and services for those with mental illness and I/DD. Education: Bryon holds an associate degree in nursing, and a BS and MS in Organizational Communications and Health Services Administration. He has completed post-graduate study at the Hamline University School of Law in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution/Mediation, and has studied as a doctoral student in Hamline University’s Graduate School of Public Administration and Management.

Bio: A co-founding member of CRA Learning, Noelle is an Speech Language Pathologist that has worked on projects involving transitioning individuals with disabilities out of state institutions and facilities to residential environments within the community. She has over 17 years experience working as a Speech-Language Pathologist in a variety of settings with both children and adults in CA, IL, MO, and GA. Her passion is developing low-tech systems for individuals to enhance their communication abilities to enable them to live as independently as possible and integrate into their communities to bring their own perspectives and talents. She was part of a team in IL that successfully closed Jacksonville Developmental Center from 2012 through 2014, transitioning over 120 individuals into smaller homes in various communities across the state. Education: Noelle earned a B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI and her Masters from Southern IL University at Edwardsville, IL.

Bio: A co-founding member of CRA Learning, Laura is an Occupational Therapist who has been working on projects at the state level since 2012 transitioning individual with Intellectual and DevelopmentalDisabilities from state institutions to community life. These projects included the closure or down-sizingof several state-run institutions for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Laura’s rolein these projects included work to prepare the individual and the community for these life changingtransitions. She continued to support these individuals throughout their transition to the community toensure they were reaching their potential for independence and living a meaningful life. Laura has over20 years of experience as an occupational therapist working with children and adults in a variety ofsettings. Laura considers herself a community clinician and uses her skills as an occupational therapistto empower children and adults with developmental disabilities to thrive in their daily lives. She hasspent a great deal of her career learning and focusing on the area of sensory processing and regulationas it relates to functional performance. She also has a passion for using assistive technology for herclients in creative ways. Education: Laura earned a BS in Occupational Therapy from CreightonUniversity in Omaha, Nebraska.
